OneCare extends our heartfelt congratulations to two of our dedicated registered nurses who were finalists in the 2025 Palliative Care Tasmania Awards!
Erin Mackrill, an RN at Barossa Park Lodge in Glenorchy and Sarah Kubank who works at our northern facilities were both up for the Excellence in Palliative Care – Aged Care Setting award, sponsored by Ageing Australia. Sarah came in as runner-up to winner Uniting AgeWell’s Strathglen facility team at the awards ceremony at Government House on Thursday, 21st August.
We are incredibly proud of both Erin and Sarah’s hard work and dedication, ensuring our residents and their families receive dignified, compassionate end-of-life care that respects their choices.
Erin said she has found her “forever home” since moving from a hospital setting to aged care, and was lucky and proud to be a palliative care nurse.
“Palliative care is a complex role to play within aged care in all aspects of what I do, from the beginning of that journey to the very end,” she said.
“I feel that it’s a privilege to support and care for people at such a vulnerable time in their lives – not only the residents but their families also. Listening and advocating for, crying and laughing with, managing symptoms, giving a hand to hold and reassuring is the most rewarding thing in the world.”
Our congratulations also go to former Senator Catryna Bilyk for her inclusion on the Joy Coghlan Tasmanian Palliative Care Honour Roll. Sponsored by OneCare, the award recognises the former Senator’s efforts towards advancing quality palliative care in Tasmania and beyond.
