Extensive renovations are beginning this month at OneCare’s Umina Park aged care facility, providing residents with modern new amenities and social spaces to gather and host friends and family.

The $2 million project will see 48 residential rooms renovated, including the addition of six new respite rooms to meet demand from the Coast community. Ensuites will be updated and air conditioning installed in 50 rooms. New A/C will also be installed in nine common areas and lounges.

Residents were particularly excited about upgrades to six courtyards across Umina Park, as well as the addition of a café said Fiona Hill, OneCare Regional Operational Services Manager.

“Making sure residents’ rooms and bathrooms are comfortable, contemporary, stylish and meet the highest standard of care is so important,” she said.

“But we’re also really focussed on creating indoor and outdoor communal spaces that are welcoming, inviting, and encourage residents to come together and socialise. That’s why we’re sprucing up our courtyards, as well as fulfilling residents’ wish for a new coffee bar.

“Isolation and loneliness can be real problems as we get older. It’s so important to have beautifully designed spaces that encourage both structured and informal socialisation.

“Whether that’s hosting family and friends, joining one of our organised activity sessions, or simply getting residents out of their rooms to sit with their hobby, book or tech, which creates opportunities to gather and chat with fellow residents and staff.”

Delivery and installation of the new air conditioning units has already begun, with OneCare aiming to complete the project by mid-year.

The project has been funded by the not-for-profit, designed by Tasmanian aged care specialists Cykel Architecture, and will be delivered by a mix of local subcontractors.
